Description

Be sure to check out our Cucumber Growing Guide to learn more about how you can successfully grow cucumbers at home.

Tasty Green Cucumber is a hybrid, Asian-style cucumber that produces slender, smooth fruits with a crisp texture. This is a burpless cucumber variety with a thinner skin and fewer Seeds than traditional slicing cucumber varieties. Tasty Green has an excellent disease-resistance package that includes resistance to powdery mildew and downy mildew.

Tasty Green Cucumber will produce heavier yields and more straight fruits when grown on a trellis. Plants grown on the ground will tend to produce more curled fruits. Fruits average 8-10" long and are slender with small ribs. These cucumbers have an excellent crunch and are great for eating raw. Use them on your favorite salad or as a highlight to your vegetable platters.

Cucumbers can be direct-seeded or transplanted. Cucumbers may be direct-seeded by hand or with a walk-behind seeder. To obtain a good stand of plants, we suggest planting Seeds every 6-8" inches and thinning to one seed per foot. Transplants grow well in our 162 Cell Seed Starting Trays and are ready to place in the ground when plants can be easily pulled from the trays.

Cucumbers are a vining plant and grow best when given a trellised structure to climb. Use a strong trellis that is well-supported with deeply driven stakes. Keeping plants off the ground will reduce the potential of plant diseases like mildews and other diseases that can result from excess plant moisture.

Trellising will also keep the fruits cleaner and save time with harvesting and processing. It will also help to prevent fruit discoloration or yellowing from sitting on the soil surface. Our Hortonova Trellis Netting works great for trellising cucumbers and is easy to install.

Great taste but get rubbery quickly

This was my first time planting these "Tasty Green" cucumbers. These cukes germinated 100% and grew quickly and they taste great. There are only 2 problems and those make this variety not the best choice for me...
Once they are picked, they get rubbery very quickly. This happens whether they are kept at room temp or refrigerated. They have to be eaten within a couple of days. The second problem is that the seed centers get very mushy when pickled. These are not good picklers. To compensate, I have begun scraping the seeds out before making pickles. Granted, the pickles taste really good but the seed core is almost like jelly. I will be trying a different variety next year.

Good eating variety. Cucumbers do exactly as in the description. I trellis mine.
