Check out our Corn Growing Guide to learn more about how to grow corn in your garden.

Serendipity Sweet Corn is a hybrid, TripleSweet corn variety that has a perfect balance of traditional corn flavor with sweet, tender kernels. This is a widely-adapted variety that performs well in all growing zones. Serendipity produces bicolor ears that average 8" long. The plants are vigorous and grow fast, reaching 6-7' tall at maturity. Serendipity Sweet Corn combines sweetness and tenderness with 75% supersweet kernels and 25% sugary-enhanced kernels. Due to the high percentage of supersweet kernels, the ears hold well on the stalk. This allows for an extended harvesting and processing window.

Sweet corn should be planted in the spring after the last frost date. Sweet corn can be grown throughout the warmer months up until fall, as long as time is permitted for harvest before first frost. Succession planting is recommended with at least two plantings, one in early spring and one in late summer/early fall. Corn ear worm pressure will be greater in the warmer months, but this can be alleviated by applying spinosad to silks and tassels once they appear.

We recommend planting sweet corn using a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. Once plants emerge, thin plants to 6-8" depending on adequate irrigation. If drip irrigation is used, in-row spacing may be as close as 6". If water is scarce, a wider in-row spacing will be necessary. For pollination purposes, corn should be planted in a square plot with rows on 30-36" spacing. Planting a few long rows will result in poor germination and absence of kernels on the cobs.

Solid Variety for all purposes

This is by far the best variety we've grown. A little late for a short season area but, it's a fantastic corn for fresh eating as well as blanching and freezing. Ears are long and fill out nice. We've been growing this variety for a quite a few years and we've done some others as a trial run but we keep coming back to serendipity.

This is my favourite corn variety hands down. We eat it like candy around here. 2022 was our 4th season growing Serendipity and I fall in love with it more every year. Cobs are packed with tender, juicy, super sweet kernels and tons of good corn flavour. The cobs are a bit shorter, but you'll consistently get 2-3 per plant and the quality is tops. This corn freezes and cans great. It keeps it's texture and flavour so well with canning it can be hard to tell it's not fresh. Of course it's great for fresh eating too. Our friends, family and customers always give it rave reviews. It's disease and bug resistant and very fungus resistant as well. Cobs are easy to pick and easy to husk too. We've had the same good luck in hot and cooler weather with it. If you can only plant 1 corn variety this is the one to go with. It ticks off every box.
