Scarlet Emperor Runner Bean is an heirloom, open-pollinated runner bean variety with exceptional beauty and taste. Vining plants produce large, 8-12" pods that are slightly fuzzy in appearance and texture. This variety is known for its beautiful clusters of scarlet-orange flowers that it produces throughout the growing season. Plants should be trellised and can grow up to 10' tall in ideal conditions. We recommend using our Hortonova Trellis Netting to support tall plants as they grow. Scarlet Emperor Runner Bean has a more pronounced, meaty flavor than a traditional, green bush bean. Bean pods are tender and delicious when harvested for fresh-eating, but may also be allowed to dry for long-term storage. Dried beans have a beautiful purple and black mottling.
