Description
ProCut White® Lite Sunflower is a hybrid sunflower variety that produces stunning white petals on a light-colored disk. This variety is similar to our White Nite Sunflower, but with a green to gold center. The petals are almost bleach white with a tinge of cream to yellow coloring towards the center. Plants produce a single bloom that averages 3-5" in diameter. If using for cut flowers, we suggest harvesting the blooms right as they start to open. White petals can be more susceptible to insect damage and this will prevent the gorgeous heads from becoming blemished.
ProCut® sunflowers are the preferred sunflower variety for the cut flower industry, but they also make a great addition to any home or market garden. They are great for attracting pollinators and beneficial insects to the vegetable garden. Increased pollinators will boost vegetable production and beneficial insects will reduce harmful pest pressure. These sunflowers also make beautiful additions to any cut flower bouquet. Plants are sturdy and average 6' tall. ProCut varieties produce a single stem with one flower per stem. ProCut White Lite Sunflower is a pollenless variety, which means it won't drop pollen on your table or furniture once cut and placed into a vase.
ProCut® White Lite Sunflower can be direct-seeded or transplanted. Direct-seeding can be easily done with a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. We recommend using a #3 seed plate and modifying the hole size to fit the variety being planted. Sunflower seed size can vary greatly from one variety to the next, therefore it's important to always calibrate the seed plate hole size for the variety being planted. Sunflowers grow well when planted on double rows with drip irrigation. Lay one row of drip tape and plant on both sides of the tape to maximize garden space.
Sunflowers also perform well when transplanted. They grow great in our heavy-duty seed starting trays. Transplants are ready to go in the ground when plants can be easily pulled from the seed starting trays. For increased storage potential, harvest sunflowers when blooms are closed or slightly open. Blooms will then completely open when cut and placed into a container with water.
