Be sure to check out our Pumpkin Growing Guide to learn how to successfully grow pumpkins at home.

PrizeWinner Giant Pumpkin is a hybrid, giant pumpkin variety that is sure to make heads turn at your local county fair or pumpkin growing contest. These pumpkins can get as large as 150 lbs, depending on growing conditions. Giant pumpkins prefer well-drained soils and plenty of nutrients as they grow. PrizeWinner Giant Pumpkin Seeds produce bright-orange pumpkins with shallow ribs that make it a great option for roadside pumpkin stands as well.

Giant pumpkins may be direct-seeded or transplanted, although we highly recommend transplanting. If direct-seeding, we recommend planting Seeds every 12" along the intended row. Once plants emerge, thin plants to one every 2 feet. If transplanting, place plants every 2-3' along the row. It is also important to have a wide row spacing so that plants have plenty of room to sprawl. We recommend up to 10' row spacing in some cases.

Pumpkins can be susceptible to plant diseases like downy mildew and powdery mildew if leaves receive excess moisture. As a result, we recommend using drip irrigation on winter squash to reduce plant moisture and feed plants more effectively. During periods of heavy rainfall, using a fungicide like Liquid Copper can help to alleviate disease pressure as well.

Pumpkins are a crop that will produce a one-time harvest at the end of the growing season. They should be harvested when plants die back and the fruits obtain their full color. Stem hardness is also an indication of fruit maturity. Once stems harden, fruits are ready for harvest using a set of pruning shears.

Pumpkins can be stored in a cool, dry place for several months, depending on variety and sugar content. Once fruits are harvested, remove the plants from the garden to prevent any fungal spores from overwintering and becoming a problem in future years. Proper crop rotation is extremely important with all pumpkin varieties to reduce disease and pest pressure.

First pumpkins

First time to plant pumpkins. Started them in a HOSS seed starter tray and then transplanted 3 weeks ago. No fruit yet but large healthy plants that look as if they will be very productive.

Had been ordering from competitor for several seasons, this their seeds came and had disappointing germination so I looked online and found your company had same seed left late in planting season and for less cost. Your seed had 110% germination as there was 11 seeds in the packet instead of advertised 10. Will be ordering again next year with you and may be ordering other products. Thank you!

We grew a 113 pound pumpkin! We are in zone 6a. I started the seeds inside and transplanted in mid June. The plant was a very vigorous grower. We got 3 more pumpkins but they were only 30 pounds. I believe this was because the flowers were pollinated much later than the first one. We will definitely be growing it again!
