This popular pepper has very consistent high fruit quality that delivers fruits with good size, smooth exterior with a dark green color. Plants will grow to 3-4′ tall and produce thick-walled fruits that are 3-4″ long. If left on the plant, fruits will mature from green to red. Red jalapeños, which are also called “chipotles”, are more flavorful than green fruits. As will all hot peppers, the level of heat will be primarily determined by the amount of water the plant receives. Jalapeno pepper plants that experience extended periods of drought will be much hotter than those that are well-watered.

Peppers are in the nightshade family along with tomatoes and eggplant. Plants in the nightshade family are susceptible to blossom end rot, which is a result of a calcium deficiency. To prevent or alleviate this problem, apply pelleted gypsum at the base of the plant at bloom set. We recommend using the Florida Weave trellising technique that involves using stakes and twine along the row. This ensures that plants and fruits stay off the ground, reducing the possibility of disease and keeping fruits clean.
*Note - limited quantity available each week, plugs will be shipped on Mondays & Tuesdays* If you are ordering Seeds and/or tools with your plugs, please note that they will all ship out together the following Monday or Tuesday with your plugs.
Hoss will conduct a full assessment of plants before they are shipped to ensure healthy plants are shipped to you. We recommend transplanting your plugs the same day you receive them or the next day. It is the customer's responsibility to assess their own weather conditions and planting times prior to ordering, please do not order if it's too early. If plants, upon arrival, are found to be in questionable health, please email pictures to Customer Support at custserv@hosstools.com within 24 hours of receiving your order and we will promptly review your concerns and submission.
