Description

Check out our Corn Growing Guide to learn more about how to grow corn in your garden.

Honey Select Sweet Corn is a triplesweet, sugary-enhanced hybrid with tender, flavorful and sweet kernels. It has 75% sugary-enhanced kernels, and 25% supersweet kernels, making it the perfect combination of corn flavor and sweetness. Plants produce large, 8" ears that are filled to the tip. Honey Select Sweet Corn was an All-America Selections winner in 2001. It germinates and emerges well in cooler soils and, because it has mostly sugary-enhanced genes, does not require isolation from other supersweet varieties. Honey Select has great storage and field holding ability, allowing for longer harvest and processing windows.

Sweet corn should be planted in the spring after the last frost date. Sweet corn can be grown throughout the warmer months up until fall, as long as time is permitted for harvest before first frost. Succession planting is recommended with at least two plantings, one in early spring and one in late summer/early fall. Corn ear worm pressure will be greater in the warmer months, but this can be alleviated by applying spinosad to silks and tassels once they appear.

We recommend planting sweet corn using a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. Once plants emerge, thin plants to 6-8" depending on adequate irrigation. If drip irrigation is used, in-row spacing may be as close as 6". If water is scarce, a wider in-row spacing will be necessary. For pollination purposes, corn should be planted in a square plot with rows on 30-36" spacing. Planting a few long rows will result in poor germination and absence of kernels on the cobs.

Awesome results so far!

We’re from Northern Michigan and have started about 1/2 our seeds(tomatoes, peppers, onions(long day),cabbage and herbs in our heated grow room and germination is at least 90%!! We can’t plant our seeds in garden for about 6-7 weeks yet which is corn, beets, carrots, peas, beans, squash and pumpkins but are very confident we will have a very successful garden and harvest!! Thank you Hoss seeds for a high quality product. We have spread the word to all our family and friends! Thank you!

Really good germination

I planted this corn seed last week, probably too early really, but I was eager to get started. The seeds broke ground in a few days. Can't wait to taste this corn!

I’m trying this in place of Kandy Korn that we’ve grown for several years. Andy on True Grit Appalachian way says it’s good. It’ll be a couple more weeks before I plant it. I hope it’s good because my family is giving me grief for planting something besides Kandy Korn.

Amazing flavor

No sweet corn I've tasted over my years comes close to the flavor of Honey Select. Just delicious! I only wish it produced more like 4 ears per stalk - or 10 - or 20 :-)
