Be sure to check out our Broccoli Growing Guide for more tips & tricks on successfully growing broccoli at home.

Green Magic Broccoli is a hybrid variety that is especially heat-tolerant. It performs well in early spring through late spring, and can be planted earlier in fall than traditional varieties. The exceptional heat-tolerance ensures the broccoli heads are slow to bolt and go to seed, ensuring great texture and flavor on harvested crowns. Seeds are fast to germinate and compact plants mature at about 2' tall. In addition to the heat tolerance, Green Magic Broccoli is known for its smooth and uniform heads. Plants produce consistently-sized heads for the first harvest, and will continue to produce side shoots for a second and third harvest. Green Magic heads have a buttery texture and great flavor.

Broccoli may be direct-seeded, but it performs best when transplanted. Transplanting allows for more consistent plant spacing, and prevents broccoli seedlings from competing with weeds in the early stages of the plant. We recommend starting transplants 3-4 weeks before the desired outdoor planting date. Broccoli transplants grow great in our heavy-duty seed starting trays, where they develop a solid root ball with roots that are trained to grow downward. Plants are ready to go in the ground when they can be easily pulled from the cells in the seed starting tray.

Broccoli crowns should be harvested when they are dark green, before any flowers or Seeds develop on the crowns. As temperatures warm in the spring, broccoli crowns will mature faster and should be monitored. Although broccoli leaves are frost-tolerant, broccoli heads are not. If frost is imminent while crowns are developing, be sure to use some form of row cover to protect the crowns from frost.

Lots of food and it's been growing for about 6 months!

I planted about 15 of these and although the heat, humidity and bugs have started to damage the leaves, I just pull those leaves off and it continues growing. I only lost 1. Very hardy plants! I think most will bounce back once I spray them and the weather cools down. I plan on starting more soon just in case, as I can never have too much broccoli! I made broccoli and cheese soup, stir fry, and also ate it in salad and with dip and it was delicious! I wish I had taken a photo when they were at their peak!

I was so impressed with my first batch of broccoli I harvested earlier this month that I purchased another pack. I live in the South Zone 8b and I was afraid that i wouldn't have any success growing in the early Spring but this variety performed much better than the other two I've tried. I'm excited to see how my other HOSS seeds (squash varieties) will grow! They're off to a great start so far! 😊
