Be sure to check out our Cabbage Growing Guide for more tips & tricks on successfully growing cabbage!

Savoy King Cabbage produces large heads with crinkled (or savoyed) leaves. These cabbage heads average 4 pounds each and are usually 9" wide and 7" tall. It has a short core, which means a larger percentage of the cabbage head is usable for food purposes. Savoy King is adapted to a wide-range of growing conditions, and can even be grown during the summer in milder climates. The crinkled leaves are excellent when prepared raw or cooked like a traditional cabbage. Use in a cabbage salad or wrap for raw preparations to provide a crisp texture to any dish.

Cabbage will grow best in areas where weeds are kept to a minimum. It is moderately frost-tolerant and performs better when planted in cooler weather. Cabbage will tend to bolt in warmer temperatures. Plant cabbage early in spring for a late spring/early summer harvest, or plant in late summer/early fall for a fall harvest. Cabbage are heavy feeders and require a considerable amount of nitrogen for larger heads. If smaller heads are sufficient, less fertilizer will be adequate.

Savoy King Cabbage may be direct-seeded or transplanted, although we suggest transplanting. Transplanting allows for more consistent plant spacing and prevents seedlings from competing with weeds in the early stages of the plant. We recommend starting transplants 3-4 weeks before the desired outdoor planting date. Savoy King transplants grow great in our heavy-duty seed starting trays, where they develop a solid root ball with roots that are trained to grow downward. Plants are ready to go in the ground when they can be easily pulled from the cells in the seed starting tray.

Great cold tolerance.

This was my first time growing savoy cabbage. Planted it in the fall and still have pretty cabbage in January. Have had at least 4 nights of 29 degrees. Will grow it again this spring.

This was my first time growing cabbage and SAVOY KING made it sooo easy. I planted it at the top of the spring, and didn't harvest it until the middle of the summer. It never showed signs of bolting, and definitely proved to be a staple in my garden. FIVE STARS!
