  • Resistant to bolting and heat tolerant.
  • Unique wavy leaves and small dense heads.
  • Great addition to any garden!

Description

Muir Lettuce has dense heads with light green broad wavy leaves. The heads are small in size and can be harvested as baby lettuce or grow into larger full-size heads. Its small size makes it a great option for hydroponic gardens! Muir lettuce has great heat tolerance and is resistant to bolting, making it a great variety for southern gardeners.

Muir Lettuce performs best when transplanted. Transplanting allows for more consistent plant spacing and prevents seedlings from competing with weeds in the early stages of the plant. We recommend starting transplants 3-4 weeks before the desired outdoor planting date. These Seeds are pelleted for easy singulation when planting in seed trays. Muir transplants grow great in our heavy-duty seed starting trays, where they develop a solid root ball with roots that are trained to grow downward. Lettuce transplants will need adequate fertilization once seedlings form the first set of true leaves. We recommend injecting 20-20-20 through the seedling watering system at least once a week to ensure plants are sufficiently fed. This can be done easily with our Brass Siphon Mixer and a five gallon bucket. Plants are ready to go in the ground when they can be easily pulled from the cells in the seed starting tray.

Very heat tolerant, with a little help care

I live in FLA zone 10 and experimented with several summercrisp lettuce types. I started 3 varieties, including Muir in May when temps here reach the 90s and our rainy season is a long way off (full sun, high humidity, and 90s every day). Once germinated I moved the plants under a 30% shade cloth to grow out transplants. When ready I transplanted undet 30% shade cloth in good raised bed soil.(pre-plant 555 fert) I misted once or twice per day during the hottest parts of the day as they grew, and the plants did great. When younger they were a little bitter, but when they matured into heads and could handle heavier watering, they tasted great! - could not believe I actually grew good heads of lettuce and harvested in June / July in zone 10. Not the easiest thing, but these plants were the best performing and tasting of the summer crisp lettuce I tried. I also tried magenta which was OK and purple fusion which did not perfrom well for me. expanding this next year from an experiment to a main crop!

Fantastic, still producing in the heat and not bolting. Love it.

Fantastic, This lettuce is crisp, and fun to eat. It is still producing in the heat and not bolting. Love it. Will buy again.

Great for summer

Fast growing and not bitter in the heat. Only downside is it does not seem to last long in the fridge. Best to eat the day it's cut.
