Be sure to check out our Pepper Growing Guide to learn how to successfully grow peppers at home.

Helios Habanero Pepper is a hybrid habanero pepper variety with a much earlier maturity and higher yields than the standard, open-pollinated habanero varieties. It also produces larger fruits than standard varieties. Because it is early-maturing, it performs well even in northern areas with a shorter growing season.

Helios Habanero Pepper produces loads of fruits on upright plants that average 24-36" tall. The fruits average 2.5" long with a 1.5" diameter. They mature from green to orange, where the citrusy flavor is most pronounced. These are very hot and register at 75,000 Scoville units. Although the heat is intense, they have a great flavor that is excellent for making homemade hot sauces.

Peppers are in the nightshade family along with tomatoes and eggplant. Plants in the nightshade family are susceptible to blossom end rot, which is a result of a calcium deficiency. To prevent or alleviate this problem, apply pelleted gypsum at the base of the plant at bloom set. Peppers do best when transplanted, as the germination time can be longer than most vegetable Seeds. Peppers grow very well in our heavy-duty seed starting trays. Plants should be started 4-6 weeks before the intended outdoor planting date.

If conditions outside are favorable, transplants may be planted directly from our 162 cell trays. If conditions are still too cold for planting peppers, transplants may be “stepped-up” to 4″ pots to allow more room to grow. Peppers can produce heavy fruits and will require some form of support to keep the plant upright. We recommend using the Florida Weave trellising technique that involves using stakes and twine along the row. This ensures that plants and fruits stay off the ground, reducing the possibility of disease and keeping fruits clean.

The order arrived when expected and in excellent condition. I planted the seeds about two weeks ago. The plants are up and look great.

Helios Habanero seeds and all seeds ordered from you.

Out of 10 seeds that I started only one germinated. I had to replant. Can't say I'm wild about that. I also had to replant the Colloseaus Jalapeños only 2 germinated and also the lemonbalm. All in all I'm probably not buying from Hoss again. I planted on 2/19/24. So they have had plenty of time. I planted old seeds that had better germination.
