Growing Information

Growing Instructions

Growing fresh chives is easy with our 4-inch Chives Seed Disks. Fill a pot with a quality potting mix, place the seed disk on the soil surface, and cover with approximately ¼ inch of potting mix. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil consistently moist until the seeds germinate.

Place your pot in a location that receives 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day or under grow lights if growing indoors. Chive seeds typically germinate in 10–14 days when soil temperatures are between 60–70°F.

Once established, water when the top inch of soil begins to dry. Harvest by snipping the leaves about 1–2 inches above the soil line, allowing the plants to continue producing fresh growth throughout the season. Chives are a perennial herb that will continue producing with regular harvesting.

For best results, pair your Chives Seed Disk with our 5" Terra Cotta Pot Set, complete with matching drip trays, reusable chalkboard labels, and a chalk marker for an organized and attractive herb garden.
