The beans were carried by the Cherokee when they were forcibly removed from their land in the southeastern United States to live on “Indian territory” in what is present-day Oklahoma, leaving a trail of over 4,000 graves. The bean can be grown as part of the "Three Sisters" alongside corn and squash.
