Description

Albion is the variety most growers point to when they talk about strawberry flavor. Berries come in large, deep red fruits, with a firmness and sugar content that make them as good on day three as they are straight off the plant. It's a day-neutral type, which means it doesn't wait for a particular day length to set fruit — it simply keeps flowering and fruiting as long as temperatures stay between about 35°F and 85°F. In practice that means a long, steady harvest instead of one concentrated flush.

These ship as live starter plants rather than seed or dormant bare root, so they establish quickly and produce their first season. Albion came out of the University of California breeding program with heat tolerance and disease resistance built in, including resistance to verticillium wilt and phytophthora crown rot. It handles garden beds, raised beds, containers, and hanging baskets equally well, and the fruit is versatile enough for fresh eating, desserts, freezing, and preserves.
