Monarch butterflies lay their eggs only on milkweed, so planting it directly supports their populations. Choose swamp milkweed for wet spots, butterfly milkweed for dry, sunny beds, or common milkweed for open areas where it can spread. All three are native perennials that also draw bees and other pollinators.
