Description
Southern Giant Curled Mustard is an heirloom, open-pollinated variety that has been a staple of southern gardens for many decades. This variety produces heavy-yields of large, curled leaves with that traditional "mustard green" flavor. Mustard greens are a great crop for spring and fall gardens because they can tolerate some heat as well as a light frost. In fact, a light frost will tend to sweeten the leaves and improve the flavor. Southern Giant Curled Mustard holds well in the field in late spring and doesn't get bitter when temperatures warm from spring into summer. This allows for a longer harvesting window so that the entire crop doesn't have to be harvested at one time. This mustard variety is great prepared raw or cooked. If you like the spiciness of the mustard leaves, it makes a great complement to any salad. If you prefer a milder flavor, cooking will reduce some of the spiciness in the raw leaves.
