Ponca Blackberry sets a new standard for sweetness and flavor among thornless blackberry cultivars. With firm, medium-sized berries and remarkably low acidity, Ponca delivers a consistent, rich taste that stands out, even in rainy conditions. Developed by the University of Arkansas, Ponca is a fruiting, thornless variety with erect canes and a compact architecture, making it easier to manage and tip-prune.
Ripening early, Ponca offers a secondary bud crop, extending your harvest window by two to three weeks. Yields are impressive, averaging over 20,000 pounds per acre in research trials. The berries are not only sweet but also firm and aromatic, holding up well in storage with minimal red drupelet reversion.
