Description

Native to the Republic of Georgia, Chesnok, also known as Shvelisi, is a versatile variety that tends to hold its shape and sweet flavor well. It's a perfect choice for dishes where you don't want too much heat.

Prized for its HUGE cloves, Music is a versatile hardneck, porcelain variety. It's named after the Canadian tobacco grower turned garlic grower Al Music, who reportedly brought this variety from Italy in the 1980s. Music is a go-to for many first-time garlic growers. It's the perfect addition to any dish, especially soups, sauces, marinades, dips, stir-fries, rubs, and much more; it's known to have a true-gourmet garlic flavor when cooked and a bold, heat flavor when eaten raw. It adapts well to a wide range of growing conditions and environments. Music is generally recommended for growing in USDA hardiness zones 3-8.

Purple hardneck garlic is a Creole-type variety which gets its name from the purple skin of its cloves. The Creole types are later to mature, but they do tend to perform better than the other hardneck varieties in regions with warmer climates, and it's great for long-term storage. Bold, intense flavor without the heat makes it a great garlic variety to eat raw. It grows best in USDA zones 3-8.

If you are a garlic lover, you will surely fall in love with the German Red Garlic; this variety is a hardneck, rocambole type that is known for its robust, spicy flavor. A variety that is well-adapted to northern climates. With fairly uniform bulbs, easy to peel cloves that have thin, purple-brown skin. German Red Garlic averages 8-10 cloves per bulb. Rocambole garlic types are loved by chefs due to their BOLD flavors. It grows best in cooler climates, such as USDA zones 3-8.

Known as being a National taste-test winner in the softneck division, Inchelium Red Garlic has large 3" bulbs that produce many cloves. This mid-season, Artichoke type has a mild to medium flavor that is great when baked. An excellent variety for braiding and stores very well for 6-9 months! Averages 6-8 cloves per bulb. Inchelium Red grows best in USDA hardiness zones 4-9.

Additional Information

Much like onions and shallots, garlic is a heavy feeder and requires plenty of water and fertilizer. Garlic has a high demand for nitrogen. We suggest fertilizing with a complete fertilizer like our 20-20-20 initially to promote root development, then switch to a nitrogen and sulfur-based fertilizer like our Ammonium Sulfate. Garlic thrives when competition with weeds is reduced. Keep weeds at a minimum with frequent shallow cultivation.

Bulbs are ready to harvest when the tops flower and the cloves reach an acceptable size. Pull the bulbs from the soil and allow them to 'cure' in the sun for a couple of days. If rain is imminent, move them to a dry area. Once cured, place bulbs in a cool, dry area that is well-ventilated. A pole barn or a ventilated storage basement is sufficient.
