Argent Hybrid Sweet Corn F1

$399

Argent Sweet Corn is a white, sugary-enhanced (se) hybrid with pearly white kernels. Excellent flavor and sweetness days after harvesting. Germinates and performs well in cooler soils. Zea mays. 85 days to maturity. Approx. 3,000 seeds per lb.

Description

Argent Sweet Corn is a sugary-enhanced (se) hybrid variety that produces shiny white, sweet kernels on large ears. Because it is a "se" type, it will store and maintain sweetness for 9-10 days in the refrigerator after harvest. This sweet corn variety produces two large, 8-9" ears per stalk with 16 rows of kernels per ear. Plants average 7' tall and this variety has been noted to produce 3 ears per stalk in some optimal conditions. Argent Sweet Corn also germinates well in cooler soils and can be planted in early spring as soon as risk of frost has passed. This is a relatively early variety that will mature quicker than standard sweet corn varieties.

Growing Information

Sweet corn should be planted in the spring after the last frost date. Sweet corn can be grown throughout the warmer months up until fall, as long as time is permitted for harvest before first frost. Succession planting is recommended with at least two plantings, one in early spring and one in late summer/early fall. Corn ear worm pressure will be greater in the warmer months, but this can be alleviated by applying spinosad to silks and tassels once they appear.

We recommend planting sweet corn using a walk-behind planter like our Hoss Garden Seeder. Once plants emerge, thin plants to 6-8″ depending on adequate irrigation. If drip irrigation is used, in-row spacing may be as close as 6″. If water is scarce, a wider in-row spacing will be necessary. For pollination purposes, corn should be planted in a square plot with rows on 30-36″ spacing. Planting a few long rows will result in poor germination and absence of kernels on the cobs.

I have grown this corn before. I skipped last year so that I could try other varieties. But this has got to be some of the best tasting corn I've ever had. So tender and juicy and sweet. I just bought a pound of seeds from Hoss. If you haven't tried it yet, it definitely doesn't disappoint.
