Be sure to check out our Beans Growing Guide for more tips & tricks on successfully growing beans.

This brand-new bush bean is the best heat set bean we have ever seen! The Hoss Green Blaze Bush Bean has a compact and upright uniform growth habit that does very well in the sweltering extreme heat of the South. This heat-loving variety makes a great candidate for machine harvesting or hand-picking because the pods sit high on the upright plant. The pods themselves are very sturdy and uniform in length, diameter, and color and have good stem length when harvested which helps dramatically with shelf-life. Hoss Green Blaze Bush Bean produces attractive dark green pods with white beans that measure 6-7″ long, slender pods. Phaseolus Vulgans. 55 Days to Maturity.

Beans should be planted in spring after the last frost has occurred. Beans will germinate best once soil temps have reached 65 F or higher. Optimal germination temperature is around 77 F. Seeds can require 8 to 16 days to germinate, depending on the soil temperature. For continual production, succession plant every couple of weeks throughout the spring and early summer. Plants will drop blooms or cease production in the heat of summer. Subsequent succession plantings may be made in late summer/fall, as long as enough time is permitted before the first frost date.

Direct seeding is recommended. We suggest using a #6 plate on the Hoss Garden Seeder and modifying the hole size (if necessary) to fit the seed size. Beans should be planted relatively thick along the row and thinned to the desired spacing. To maximize garden space, consider using a double-row spacing. For double-row spacing, rows may be planted as close as 6″ apart with 3′ spacing between double rows. For single row spacing, 2′ to 3′ spacing is recommended.

Great green bean

I live in Kentucky where there are really no fall gardens I’ve ever seen, but I thought I’d try my hand at it. So I planted this green bean, had 100% germination, a very vivacious and strong plant, we had 3 nights with a frost and although I covered them, they succumbed to the cold temperatures. Will definitely try again in spring.

Great!

Planted late September started blooming around Halloween. I started from direct sow in Hoss 5 gallon root pouch. I planted 3 but could've done one more in one pouch. Can't wait to taste them in a few days!
